Heads or Tails - you always win. We trusted in the unkown and placed our hopes and hearts in the hands of the healers we have chosen through both Benioff Children's Hospital campuses to help Lala get well. We are just back from a rather arduous week of testing at Benioff CHO. We are incredibly lucky to have access to such a great hospital and medical center. Our stay was filled with magic and medicine and incredible love from our friends and community. We are so lucky to have so much love in our lives. We will, in all likelihood, be returning next week as Lala needs more testing so that treatment can begin - for now her pain is being managed a bit better. I am deeply grateful that we live in such a resource rich area and that we had the awesomeness of three specialty care teams and the best pediatrician ever and an amazing integrative medicine provider working together for one fierce little girl. If you have to have a very sick kid - Benioff is the place to do it. That said - its exhausting and disorienting for us all. But we are tethered by love and gratitude and an outpouring of support that proves that love wins. We passed out grati-tools... we used our grati-tools.... AND.... we invoked the spirt of our deeply missed friend Michele Turner - and "penny-hiked" the halls of the hospital. Lala penny-hiked her way down to the OR making that unknown situation a little less scary not just for her but me too. A reminder that much of life, no matter how well we prepare, is left to chance.. Pennyhike is a game for mindful adventure. Begin where you are. Flip a penny. Heads you go right. Tails you go left. Flip at every corner. The rest is left to chance! Lala was incredibly happy to penny-hike with her bestie and the photos below show her real joy and getting to explore the hospital with Dahlia.
